Tips for combination feeding with breastmilk

So confused about when I’m meant to pump and replace a feed! Baby is five weeks three days old and I’m planning to introduce a bottle. I read you’re meant to pump after the morning feed when supply is highest so I’ve done that but which nursing session do I replace with the milk so I don’t end up engorged? Tips and tricks most appreciated!!!

It depends on how your wanting to combi feed.

My DH would take baby from about 8pm til 11ish so I could get a nap in. I would feed beforehand but then he would have a bottle of expressed.

If replacing more then 1 feed then you will need to pump would say the general rule is 3 hours ish.

@Scottishskifun the nighttime feed your husband did, was that with milk you'd expressed at night?

I need to leave at least an hour to pump a decent amount. I often end up giving the baby half the pumped amount straight away because it's been an hour and he's hungry again! He then finishes off both breasts because he's more efficient than the pump. I don't stick to fixed time slots, just whenever he's having a decent nap.

A mixture when he was before 12 weeks and then night time after we started more of a bedtime routine.
I would usually feed him around 11-12pm directly so he still got the sleepy milk.
The main thing was my DH not giving too much (usually only needed about 60ml) and pace feeding the bottle.

On occasions where DH had either of them out and about then he would take expressed milk and I would pump.
I used to find the hakaa first feed of the morning to be a easy way to collect though attach one side whilst feed off the other then swap over. Just keep a screw top bottle nearby and decant it!
