Newborn (2 weeks) refusing bottle

Nunu90 · 28/05/2025 21:27

My newborn is mostly breastfed and we have supplemented with a bottle a handful of times (she is two weeks old). We are using the MAM bottles and she has just refused some expressed breast milk from the bottle.

are there any other bottles/tests or recommendations anyone can make to successfully combi feed? My little boy switches between breast and MAM with no issues so we’ve not encountered this before/

Sounds stupid but have you tried tickling the bottom lip with the teet.

Another idea is that it’s the milk not the bottle. Mine would never take expressed milk from storage as it was high in some kind of lipid which made it taste weird if reheated?

Could test the above by giving express straight away whilst still warm.

Buy a range of teats and try them all. You never know what will work.

How fresh is the milk, I had high lipase and if the milk was more than about 12h old my daughter refused to drink it and ideally no more than a few hours.
We used the laniosh bottles with the variflow teat as I read they were a good mimic for the breast. I also read that it can help to pick a teat that is a similar shape to your breast/nipple.

My breastfed baby will take a Lansinoh bottle. I’ve heard the teats work on Mam bottles. But otherwise warm milk, you out of the room, not waiting until she’s starving and stressed might help.

My baby wouldn't take a bottle from me until ~4 months old, only from DP. Might be a factor.
