Normal rule is if they want more food within an hour put them back on same side, if it's longer than an hour swap sides. Think feeding is meant to be the best thing for mastitus as it clears the blockage, while baby feeds rub warm flannel down breast towards nipple to help clear blockage. And try vaseline on nipples after each feed, no need to wash off each time as baby can feed through it. Hope some of that helps.

also if breasts over full put warm flannel on in bath and it stops them feeling so engorged at early stages.

HV advised feeding from one side then offering the other and then at next feed start with the one you FINISHED with last time. Does that make sense?

Sorry you have mastitis, its horrible isn't it?! get lots of rest if you can. Getting in the shower and letting the hot water run onto the sore side helps a bit. also helps to hand express a little off to stop engorgement. AGain, in the shower worked best for me!

Other than that, keep feeding from that side.

Have you any kamillosan? that worked wonders for my sore cracked nipples!
