How much do you eat while bf?

I seem constantly hungry - this is my second baby and I can't seem to eat enough - so far I have had a bowl of ready break, a croissant, an apple, a toasted cheese and tomatoe sarnie and it is only 12 - am just about to cook a huge bowl of pasta -
What do you eat in a day?

sounds standard to me

my appetite has settled a bit (dd now 9m) but am not quite back to normal, though I think this is over-compensation for lack of sleep rather than actual hunger.

hannahsaunt · 20/05/2008 12:27

We're down to 3 bf a day (ds3 is 8mo) and although I'm eating less than I was in the early months, it's still more than 'normal' and I'm still losing weight (albeit very slowly now). Enjoy!

janx · 20/05/2008 12:47

Glad is not just me then ds is 5 months and I am not getting that much sleep with him teething and bf.

With ds, absolute f---ing loads. I could not get enough calories down me. But the pounds still kept dropping off. He was Hard Work!

pud1 · 20/05/2008 13:04

same here. an constantly hungry. am trying not to fill myself with cakes and chocs but cant help it. i am sick of hearing myself moan about my weight then stuffing my face with cake

Stroppyknickers · 20/05/2008 13:05

You need an extra 500 calories a day, officially. Hooray! Mind you I am starving in the evenings, eat loads of cake, and have still lost far too much weight.

scorpio1 · 20/05/2008 13:05

loads. baby is 4 weeks and i am starving! though i seem to be losing weight really quickly.

VictorianSqualor · 20/05/2008 13:09

I'm not that hungry TBH, but SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO thirsty.

Stroppyknickers · 20/05/2008 13:12

Mine is 6mts and i am living on fizzy water, wine, chocolate and loads of carbs.

Stroppyknickers · 20/05/2008 13:13

perhaps wine should have come at the end, rather than second food preference.

TheProvincialLady · 20/05/2008 13:14

It's not how much you eat that counts, but how much of it you drop on your baby's head whilst feeding.

retrodolly · 20/05/2008 13:26

LOL provinciallady that's my opinion exactly . Poor DD, she's been festooned with chocolate droppings, toast crumbs, biscuit crumbs ...

My poor DS was almost yellow from all the take away curry

smellyeli · 20/05/2008 21:05

I truly have Breastfeeding Hunger - DD is 5 weeks old and I just can't stop eating!! Today I've had two breakfasts (one healthy muesli with DS before he went to nursery and then one Asda breakfast 2 hours later!!) a massive salad, then for second lunch after our nap a big sandwich, just had csserole for first tea and now wondering what there is for supper....
I remember this from last time (DS is 3)- constantly hungry, thirsty, exhausted - and last time it felt like it would never end, but this time I'm really revelling in it - make the most of it, I say. Time enough for me to be a moody weightwatcher (I get so grumpy when I'm 'being good' as my MIL would say) although I am walking a lot more this time around, as last time I actually put ON weight whlst breastfeeding - they don't mention THAT little gem in all the bumf!

It's a wonder DD doesn't poo pure Green and Blacks, though, the amount I'm getting through......

janx · 20/05/2008 21:15

oh smellyeli - what is your fav green and blacks? I love the ginger one

OP posts:
smellyeli · 21/05/2008 18:25

I love them all! But the cherry one has a special place in my heart (or should I say stomach) The ginger one reminds me too much of morning sickness, though, as I used to eat it on the way to work to avoid stopping the care for a quick vom. My favourite is the little multi pack with all the flavours in - maybe I could trade you cherry for ginger??

janx · 21/05/2008 22:02

Oh yes - the little packs are great - recently got into the butterscotch.... yes will swap - no keen on the cherry
Am having to have a blood test soon for which I have to fast. The test is at 9am - don't know how I am going to do it
