Stopping Breastfeeding - Advice please

My little one is 14 months and we’re weaning off breastfeeding. Two weeks ago we stopped daytime feeds and replaced with cows milk. Two days ago, we stopped the morning breast feed so she had a bottle of cows milk then instead. So now she’s only having a feed from me just before bed.

I expressed the last two days during the day as I was worried about engorgement and mastitis. But I’m worried this is going to confuse my body and encourage it to produce more milk. My question is, can I just do the feed before bed and not express in the day at all? Will my boobs get used to this and stop producing so much in the day? I’ve made it to midday today (so last breastfeed was 7pm last night) but they feel very full.

I have a son too but I can’t remember what I did when I stopped with him five years ago !

thanks

When I stopped both times at around 13 months, I didn't express at all. If you do find yourself engorged, I'd suggest hand expressing a little, just until you're comfortable, but not to empty the breast.

I stopped cold turkey at 10 months. For the first 3 days I expressed a couple of Oz when I would usually feed. Then I expressed at each feed just enough for comfort for another 2 days and then after that only for comfort, usually in the evening.
