Hi everyone!

So I have some questions regarding feeding and nappies, my baby is almost 2 weeks old.

Firstly, for side lying feeding at night, I place a towel underneath me and baby yet the bedding underneath still gets soaked in the morning from milk/baby sickness, what can I do to sort this?
Secondly, how can I feed from both boobs by staying on the same side as I have small boobs? People say it's too dangerous to turn over and have baby between me and husband to feed from other boob but at the moment this is what I'm doing as I'm struggling to stay on the same side.
Also, is it normal that when lying down feeding milk goes into her nose 😬

My final question is regarding nappy leaking. I change baby's nappy frequently yet her nappies are constantly leaking especially at night. I tried both size zero and size 1 nappies pampers and other brands.

Thank you in advance!

  1. Nappy leaking. Is there a bodysuit over the nappy to make sure it stays close enough to her body?
  2. When mine was that tiny it worked to just put her on me and on the boob. She was then drinking at a somewhat awkward angle and drinking somewhat "up" if you know what I mean but it worked fine.
  3. Leaking: ugh, I was a faucet. I had a plastic bin liner and several towels. It protected the matrass. The bedding was a hopeless affair.

Enjoy that adorable age 🥰

I found a nightie like this helped with leaking as a little pressure and support stopped it coming out. www.hotmilklingerie.co.uk/products/dream-nightie-black-regular?_pos=1&_psq=Night&_ss=e&_v=1.0

Nappy leaking- make sure the vest has enough room for the nappy to expand, if it’s constructed it will leak. Make sure the ‘drill’ round the thigh is pulled out not tucked in

leaking is a pain but tends to settles when your supply regulates

fine to roll over and feed on other side if you are awake and observing baby but lift her back to the other side when she’s finish drinking.

i work in infant feeding and generally find side laying feeding although lovely isn’t so practical with very newborns, like you say it goes up her nose etc and can be tricky to get the latch right. You may be better to sit up and use a pillow til about 8 weeks then start feeding in bed as she will be bigger and be able to manoeuvre her head into the right place herself

I'm still breastfeeding my 7 month old and side lying is amazing, but it really did not work in the early days. It was only when he was around 2-3 months that side lying started to work for us. Until then, I always sat myself up to feed.

Not much you can do about leaking except put a towel under you, that will settle around 8 - 10 weeks.

Turning over is fine IF you're awake. Personally, I kicked DH to the sofa and me and baby had the big bed until 5 months when we sleep trained. He started rolling properly at 5 months anyway and being in bed with me wasn't safe anymore.

Nappies - try different brands. Pampers worked well in terms of size but seemed to give him a nappy rash. As he grew, Huggies was better. We tried Honest diapers but they were shit, leaked all the time everywhere.
