Reflux

My DS was 9 weeks prem he's currently 12 weeks (3 corrected) he suffers with quite bad reflux , it was bad in NICU and he lost 18% of his weight . They put him on Gaviscon which really helped , but the vomiting has picked up the last few weeks .

On Wednesday the GP gave us Carabel to try in the milk , this seems to have worked we have only had one episode of sickness since starting. He is EBF mainly on expressed milk , but a couple of breast with a nipple shield (he has a tounge tie ). We only give the Carabel for bottle feeds .

Anyway he now hasn't pooed since Tuesday and isn't really burping with feeds . I've read carabel can cause this does anyone if this passes or I need to stop it which I don't really want to do. Thanks !

Milk thickeners can cause constipation. My daughter was on gaviscon, she's allergic to carobel, and we failed to find an amount of gaviscon that relieved the reflux but didn't cause constipation so accepted lactulose on prescription which is a mild stool softener.

My daughter ended up on omperazole as well and I needed to go dairy and soya free as she also has food allergies which makes the reflux worse.

Are you still under paeds due to prematurity? I think I would be asking for a review with a paediatrician as from my experience GPs knowledge of reflux is patchy and my daughters paediatrician was quite critical of how my daughters GP had been managing her reflux. Some of their advice had been incorrect
