Will STTN tank my supply?

Hello

My little one is 15 weeks old and from 8-12 weeks was sleeping 10:30-4 and 5-7 over night, then had 3 weeks of multiple wakings which I assumed was a regression, and then last night did 9:45 - 5am! Amazing, but my goodness my boobs were sore!

I know it might just be a one off, but it got me thinking. We're trying to slowly bring her bedtime forwards and if she starts sleeping through... What will happen to my milk supply? With no night feeds. And how do I get 8 feeds in 24 hours!!

Also she was thrashing around at 2:45 and I was just about to feed her, when she went calm and quiet so I left her as it looked a lot like active sleep... I assume she wouldn't have slept another two hours if she had been hungry?

I don’t think she would have slept another two hours if she was hungry as long as she’s gaining weight and has periods in the day when she’s bright and alert. Hungry babies are often very sleepy in the day.

As for getting the feeds in, I’d try offering every 2 to 2.5 hours in the day. Might be a bit intense but totally worth it if you’re going to get her sleeping all night? Wink

Mine slept through early and EBF til 18 months, used to cluster feed a lot on evening until we went to bed so assume got her needs met that way. As long as they're growing ok then they would let you know if hungry so enjoy the rest!

Your milk supply will adjust to her demands and needs. Hand express a little if you need to relieve discomfort. Keep an eye on her growth chart/weight gain but ultimately....

Enjoy the sleep!

How was she last night @Keggles36?

Howdoyouwait · 22/03/2025 13:33

My little one is 12 weeks and sleeps through from 7-7.

I feed 4/5 times a day, aiming for around 7am, 11am, 3pm and 6pm, and another if he seems hungry at any point but obviously quite flexible within that. He’s learnt to eat big feeds at each time. I pump at 10pm when I go to sleep and for the first few weeks my boobs were sore/leaking in the morning but have now got used to it. Supply is great and hasn’t tanked at all.

This is all reassuring thanks everyone - she has good weight gain and is awake and alert all the time (arguably too much of the time it's a batle to get her to nap!!)

@BunnyRuddington last night she was up 5 times 🤣😭 so don't need to worry yet! Guess we're still in the regression and the night before was a unicorn!

5 times, oh dear! I remember those days.

i also had one that refused to nap too. It might be worth having a look at the No Cry Nap Solution Flowers

@BunnyRuddington I know I could have cried. I think a bit of it was that my husband is away and he does her bed time after I've fed usually, and my mum is here helping with our puppy and she wouldn't stop playing with the baby right before bed so she was massively over stimulated... We'll see what happens tonight!

I'll have a look at that, so she went down for my mum for an hour this afternoon so maybe it's just me!!

Going down for your DM for a hour is great. Hope you have a better Iggy tonight Flowers
