6.5 MO suddenly refusing bottle

Hannah0120 · 18/03/2025 16:25

Hi All,

My 6.5 month old DD has never been the biggest eater from birth anyway but more recently she just will not take her bottle! Started weaning over a month ago now and she has taken it really well, her appetite actually increased when I initially started weaning but over the last 2 weeks she is just not interested in a bottle. She used to have around 3oz every 2 hours but point blank refuses now after 2 hours so I’ve been leaving 3-4 hours between feeds and even at that.. the most she will have is 1oz! I’m suspecting maybe teething could be an issue but I’m just really worried she’s not getting what she should be. She isn’t fussing with her purees just seems to be bottle. Is this just a phase?!

That must be frustrating. Are you offering solids just once or twice a day ?

And are you offering the bottle before solids?

I am offering the bottle before solids and yes twice a day. Usually weetabix or fruit in a morning and then puree vegetables in the evening

I just went through this with my breastfed baby. He's 6 months and 3 weeks and the last 2-3 weeks until today have been a nightmare. I've been twisting myself in all kinds of positions to try and convince him to feed. Today he finally decided to feed properly again, I haven't done anything different! He has indeed been teething, which I only realized 3 days ago when I saw his little tooth!! So that explained it for me.

@887PooleFan Ahh glad you got to the bottom of it! Is he more settled now? DD still has no sign of a tooth and is still waking up constantly.. honestly feel like we’ve taken 10 steps back as she always slept through from 5 weeks old until now 🥲

@Hannah0120 yes, he's back to normal but now I got my first period AND a cold and my supply has dipped, poor thing is desperate for milk and nothing is coming out 🙄my boobs are super soft, he's pulling and hitting them trying to get milk out! And I'm dealing with a shitty period too! There's always something!!!

I can't believe yours has slept since 5 weeks though 😱 mine woke every 1-2 hours until he was 5 months and we sleep trained

Oh no!! Bless you it seems everything’s come at once for you, hope you feel better soon! Yes, I was so lucky to have had her sleeping through from 5 weeks that’s why now it’s absolutely killing me when she’s up every hour. Currently 5am and since being down at 8 she’s been up every 2 hours 🙃 can I ask how you sleep trained?

@Hannah0120 we used the Ferber method i.e. let him cry and intervene at set intervals. However, he was already randomly self settling and the constant rocking and cuddling to sleep wasn't working anymore. It was stimulating him more and more and it was taking over an hour to rock him to sleep. So one night we decided to just put him down and left the room. He cried for a bit, like 25 minutes (we came in to check at 5 and 10 mins) but then he just calmed down. I think he cried 5-10 minutes the next 2 nights and then never again.

He still woke up for feeds, about 3x night, then he dropped one feed, and after another month he dropped the second one. So we're down to one feed around 3am.

My daughter had this, it was an ear infection and it took me way too long to realise. Kick myself now. Every time she sucked, it hurt. She was starving but wouldn´t eat. Once it was treated at hospital she was fine. I weaned her then onto finger food and she never looked back.
