Hi so I'm currently still breastfeeding my 10 month old son . I've been having weird pains in my breasts before and after breastfeeding and a little during they feel like baby is suckling glass shards through its not so much the nipples that hurt although they are sore aswell(i imagine as he has teeth and loves to bite & squash the nipple between his teeth/gums. The pains are deep inside the breast the right side isn't he worst effected and travels to my armpit also!! I just thought itnmay be part of breastfeeding and would go however it hasn't. Yesterday i noticed my son has quickly developed what seems like sores and a massive red bottom especially around his anus it's red raw also the creases of his legs are red and have some white discharge. So I smothered him in sudocrem which has made it worse he's itching like crazy . After searching online and some mumsnet questions it the symptoms from me and my son down to a T sound identical to nipple thrush /thrush!!. I've rung my doctors who have no appointments left as only 1 doctor working! . However I was advised after speaking to the doctor to ring back tomorrow for an appointment but in the mean time go to the chemist and buy some 1% canasten cream for both my nipples and my sons bum. I'm a little concerned as I've read I will proberly be prescribed fluconazole
To take however I'm allergic to that and the only thing I can take in regards to thrush is the pessary and cream everything else I seem to have reactions to. Does anyone know if the cream will do the trick on both me and my son? And if not what else can I take . Is there anything anyone did at home for this to clear up? How long does this last its been agony but only getting worse and I feel like the worst mum now my son has this awful rash and cuts over his bum!!

I was prescribed cansteen cream for me but baby needed an medication which was drops. If he has nappy rash then he will also need antifungal nappy cream.

Sounds like you are really going through a lot here, for you and your baby!

It's my understanding that GPs should provide appointments for under 2s. Failing that 111 or your health visiting duty desk/admin line.

Some info on painful breastfeeding on this link, could it be vasospasm. I believe this isn't commonly considered by GPs but often is a source of pain for mothers.

I'm sorry to hear you are both going through this and hope you both start to get better soon.
