Hayfever. What's safe to take?

Have had a look on kellymom and it seems to say clarytin is ok, can't find any mention of piriton but having googled it I dont think it's a good idea to take it?

Will ask HV tomorrow but thought I'd seek advice on here first. Does anyone else have hayfever and if so what do you take for it?

medinose is the best invention ever for hayfever - expensive though see medinose
Lloyds chemist do a cheaper version which choclateteapot says also brilliant.
I have had hayfever for the last 25 years and been pregnant or bf for the last 9 years so had to find something natural
I promise you it works.
Also sterimar nasal spray or google nasopure to wash pollen out of nose
buy a plant spray bottle from garden centre, fill with water and put on fine mist setting and spray on self, clothes, family, pets, windows to dampen the pollen down as you don't get hayfever when it rains!
smear balm/vasaline on eyelashes and up nostrils

When I was bf last year, the doctor said don't take antihistamines but the eye drops / nasal sprays that they will prescribe are fine.

I have to take antihistimines all year round and so have taken lots of medical advice about them in pregnancy and BFing. It depends how bad your hayfever is. The old drugs such as Piriton are regarded as completely safe during pregnancy and BFing but they can have lots of side effects (which is my case) so not an option for all. I take zirtek and I'm still Bfing my 18 month old DD. Very, very tiny amounts go into the BM. It depends on how risk averse - some people don't drink whist BFing, even less of the antihisitime goes into your milk than having a glass of wine...

Nasal sprays are OK e.g. Beconase - the amount of steroid entering your bloodstream is pretty minimal.
