Do breastfed babies always need burping? Gassy baby

FTM to a 2 week old and worried that my baby is in discomfort. She's EBF and falls asleep at the breast each time she's fed, won't stay awake to switch sides. I try to keep her upright after a feed, have tried all types of winding techniques but she never burps.

She'll often wake back up after I've laid her down, mainly at night, to feed again. Can sometimes be a bit squirmy, will her kick legs out. She's also very gassy, passes wind a lot and her poos are explosive & passed with a lot of wind.

She's not overly sicky, rarely possets. I'm worried that because she's not bringing up the wind with a burp she's passing it as gas.

Can anyone please adviseSad

My EBF boy was almost impossible to wind UNTIL we started stirring him around in a wide circle whilst sitting him on our knees. Instant belch! He’s been having gripe water before each feed since he was 4 weeks and it’s been a game changer for his trapped wind.

The screaming is horrific though, so I’m sending you a very un MNetty hug and a handhold. It’s rough but it gets better!

Ah it's difficult when you can't get a burp out of them isn't it! We found they usually did need one but not 100% of the time. I think there are some different burping technique videos you can find

My exclusively BF baby never brought any wind up and was never sick, but had the usual colic for a few weeks in the evenings around that age. Can you ask your health visitor or GP for advice?

I tried a few techniques and think I'm now doing something similar to you @hereismydog which seems to be working.

Thank you all so much!
