Help! Unsterile water for newborn

theadoory · 12/02/2025 23:22

I discovered yesterday that we've been feeding our newborn unsterile formula!
We'd hadnt using the machine correctly. Thought it was boiling the water the machine but a new look at the instruction book mentioned you're supposed to be using cooled boiled water in it - not just water from the tap
Ahhhh!
Baby has had colic, or what I imagine colic to be - wailing for hours, usually sometime after feeding. Seems in much pain and sadness.
HAS THE WATER BEEN CAUSING THE GAS PAIN ALL ALONG?!
Please advise! Thanks!
Sorry for poor English, not first language.

The baby will be fine. And unsterilised water doesn't cause colic.

Maybe, but the good news is that if that is the problem, then using boiled water will solve things very quickly

Dont worry. Everyone fucks up something, its just a matter of what particular thing you fuck up

Not colic then, extreme reaction to gas and wind, a lot in agony for many hours crying - really worried it's harmed him long term?

Is this the tommee tippee machine? I swear you're supposed to use tap water? This being said we had it and our baby was suffering bad so agitated appeared to be stoma cj ache whenever we used it, we clocked it was the machine a stopped using it and she was fine. We used to nuby rapid cools instead

Pinkdreams · 12/02/2025 23:33

Nope just looked and it's definitely tap water you're supposed to use

It won't be the water, they're just born with very undeveloped/unused digestive systems.

It takes them a while to get the hang of the whole digestion thing, some more than others.

Obviously use sterile water/follow the right steps now (not sure on what's right as never had the machine) but try not to worry.
