Question about making formula?

I have been given a box of toddler formula (growing up milk) and figured I may as well use it. Dd was breastfed so I never used formula and I'm a bit clueless... do I need to boil the water to make up the drink? I googled it and it said it was to kill bacteria in tap water... but she drinks unboiled tap water anyway. I'm confused.

Does the box not have instructions?

The boiling water is to kill bacteria in the milk powder, not the water.

Toddler milk is ultra processed with seed oil and sweeteners - I wouldn't feed it if you don't need to.

Brooomhilda · 09/02/2025 14:40

@littleluncheon it does but it also says to allow the boiled water to cool before adding the formula? So... I'm just boiling the water to clean water she already drinks? That's why I'm confused.

I have checked it and no sweetener and only oil is fish oil. So not too bad!

If she's over one then why even bother to use it, can't she just drink fresh milk?

Meecrowahvey · 09/02/2025 14:43

The water needs to be hot enough to kill the bacteria in the formula. Formula is not sterile.

What brand is it?

only oil is fish oil yum Hmm

  • Boil fresh kettle water
  • Wait a MAX 30 minutes for the water to cool (do not let it water go below 70 degrees as it won't be hot enough to kill the bacteria in the formula)
  • Pour to whatever oz you need
  • Add levelled scoops of formula (number of oz : scoops of formula)

You are killing bacteria in the powder, not the water. You let the boiled water cool for up to 30 minutes and then add the water then the powder to the bottle/cup

From 1 you can just use cows milk so would think it's a lot bother to make it up just to drink.
