Cracked nipple after 22months breastfeeding

DS, aged 22 months, still breastfeeding several times a day. Over the last month one of my nipples has got more and more painful. It started off a bit red around the areola, which spread and went flaky, then some cracks opened up, which have got more ans deeper, and tonight it's started bleeding.

I've spoke to several people - my GP suggested thrush, but the cream prescribed didn't change anything. Everyone else has blamed a bad latch.

The thing is, the latch looks fine (to my untrained, but not inexperienced eyes - this is BF baby number 3). My other nipple is fine, and there are no complaints from baby - not excessively gassy like previous baby with tongue tie.

So what's causing it? Could it be a latch issue? I'm so close to giving up, it's so painful. Please help!

Hi there it's a midwife with infant feeding experience. I wouldn't expect a poor latch to be a problem at this age. It does sound like a thrush. Both you and baby need treatment for the treatment to work. Alternatively I suggest you go back to the GP for a different medication

Thank you @Kosenrufugirl, I really appreciate you replying. I did go back to the GP, and asked for medication for DS and something different for me. Now I just have to wait and see if it works.
