Hi everyone!

I’m a bit concerned because our newborn hasn’t pooped since Friday. Is that typical?

Yeah was a joke, we share the feeds and changing etc. She’s done a poo 🥳

Yeayy

They should be doing at least two poos a day under 6 weeks old. How many days old are they?

This is a good guide https://www.nct.org.uk/information/baby-toddler/caring-for-your-baby-or-toddler/newborn-baby-poo-nappies

I would call the midwife in the morning.

This is wrong. Breastfed babies may not much, and be perfectly healthy.

She’s done a poo. Yay! How is she in herself?

You too. Admittedly I forgot the Grin but it wasn't said with any kind of malice.

It’s ok 😂

It’s not wrong at all. Read the nct guidelines I showed (which you clearly haven’t) and check the nhs website for yourself. It’s important not to tell parents the wrong information.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 29/01/2025 10:02

@fashionqueen0123 then the NCT must have changed their position.

They haven’t changed anything in years if at all. This has been the case in infant feeding advice for as long as I can remember.

It is only normal for BF babies to go for days between poos after 6 weeks old. Before this it can be a sign of not enough milk intake. Which is why it’s so important to flag up.

Ah I See. Thank you. I wasn’t specifically thinking of the under 6 week angle.
