Nuby rapid cool

My baby is 12 days old and we've been using ready made formula overnight for ease. I have the Nuby rapid cool which I would like to start using for his feeds now he is starting to have more.

Does this sound ok?? - For a 4oz feed. Measure 4oz into bottle. Transfer 3oz into Nuby leaving a 1oz hot shot in the bottle which I will add the formula powder to. Then add the cooled 3oz

Am I right in thinking that because it's just water in the Nuby I don't need to sterilise??

Put the boiled water into the Nuby, add the scoops of powder into the water (so 4oz water and 4 scoops of formula). Give it a good shake and once it's the correct temp, pour into the bottle and give to your baby. Then wash and cold water sterilise the Nuby.

You can do it that way OP, it's the hot shot method, when you increase the ounces you'll need to leave more than 1 oz of hot water to make sure the formula sterilises and dissolves properly

yes it's one ounce of hot water per four oz of formula for the hot shot. if you increase the feed amount you'll have to increase the amount of hot water.

Or you can do it the way the other PP said but it means sterlising between uses so depends on whether you have multiple feeds per night

I’d get a perfect prep instead. It does exactly what you’re proposing with the hot shot going on the powder to kill any potential bugs, then cooler water added to bring the bottle down to drinking temp, but it’s a lot less faff because you don’t need to wait for the kettle to boil or measure out boiling water in the middle of the night. And it doesn’t need sterilising because it only has water in it, just a cleaning cycle and new filter once a month. Or if you don’t want to buy another piece of baby kit you could just put your boiled water in a flask in the fridge before you go to bed and use that to finish your bottle once you’ve done your hot shot. The rapid cool I’d keep for when you’re out.
