how much expressed b/milk can a 5 week old drink ?

I have asked a question about this a few weeks ago, but am still worried about the following:

I am expressing about 9 fl. oz a day and my husband feeds our son at the evening feed. He actually manages to finish the bottle at that feed and I am worried that he is taking to much. He does hardly get sick after this bottle whilst he does chuck up a lot after he feeds from the breast.

The thing is, if he's drinking too much, he will either chuck up (this is what my dd does) or feel uncomfortable later on - does he sleep alright after this feed? If so, don't worry. If not give him a little less (I used to go on the amounts stated for formula feeding babies of the same age. I think it's 4-5 fl oz for 5 weeks but as it's an evening feed try 6.)

If you do cut the amount he drinks, do keep expressing the same amount for the time being though. He's due a growth spurt soon!

I think it really depends on the baby. My ds could easily do 8 fl. oz in a feed while my dd really isn't interested in more than 5 or 6. I didn't think it was possible to feed a baby too much breastmilk if you are feeding on demand.

Since this is concerning you, why are you giving him EBM at the evening feed? I only fed my babies EBM when I was working or out and they fed from the bottle with no problem.

9oz is a lot of milk - the most mine took was 7oz. All babies are different though. I would keep some of the milk and freeze it so that you have a stock for times that you need it. If you want to keep your baby used to the bottle you could give him less of the milk then freeze the excess, and if he needs more then breast feed him.
You obviously have plenty of milk.
