Baby - possible CMPA

Hello!

My son is 4 months old, got diagnosed as possible CMPA at 2 months but then also put on omeprazole a month later for his reflux which seems to be what actually sorted out whatever tummy issues he seemed to have when feeding (not dietary formula)

Anyway, apologies as this may be long winded but i’ll try shorten!

  • Fast forward to now he has done the milk challenge (5 day long challenge from GP) which was fine full bottle day 5 completed, no signs.
  • We carried on with a mix of both formulas next few days which was also fine (full week)
  • Then approx day 8 on both formulas (no particular increase in cows milk formula intake) he was sick multiple times & had the runs.. fine again all the next day so presumed maybe 24hr tummy bug? Was completely happy in himself, we also went to GP who didn’t feel it was related and said if poos settle then that’s good..
  • next night random projectile sick again straight after feed (once, fine all other bottles of the day) could it just be reflux and not related to the previous day? (Never usually sick at all)
  • We are now on 100% kendamil formula, he is currently sick (what seems the whole bottle) straight after a feed once a day (third day in a row now). Poos look better not runny how they were but much more frequent than on previous formula.

he seems happy overall, and no rash or discomfort so it seems, but just the random almost projectile vomitting which we’ve never had before (maybe twice since birth and now once a day?) and increase in poos along with this 24hours where he seemed unwell; is it all just coincidence? Has anyone experienced similar? I’d love him to be fine with the cows milk as he HATES the dietary formula and every feed is a chore with it.

we are also pretty sure he is teething, i’ve read mums say it causes runs.. but sick?

sorry this is so long, just so many variables!
Interested if anyone has experienced similar or any ideas.. thank you!

With DS2 we had to be careful with bottle sizes when he was teething. The drooling from teething made him more acid-y and much more likely to vomit.

Has it been the same feed each day that he's been sick?

ah okay, thats helpful. Apart from the 24hours where he was sick multiple times then it has been on 2 morning feeds & the feed he has at around 2am before his first bottle🤷🏼‍♀️

Have you tried a different brand of formula? My baby was also being investigated for CMPA due to reflux and mucus in his nappies. He refused to drink the milk we were prescribed and in desperation I bought some different formula and he’s been absolutely fine on Hipp.

Edited to say we were using Kendamil!

Thank you! No, I currently haven’t tried anything else as I have been reluctant to keep swapping him onto different milks.. I’ll maybe wait out another week as long as he seems happy enough as he is now and if he is still being sick I may try hipp!

I went through lots of similar things with both of my children, one who turned out to be allergic to lots and the other to nothing at all. My biggest piece of advice, and i appreciate that it is so hard to do, is not attribute everything to allergies. There are so many other reasons babies are sick. It can be a minefield but I just wanted to say that a paediatric allergy dietitian was by far the best at helping me unpack it all.
