has anyone had similar probs? been bf my baby for 13wks and shes v.slow gaining weight, was 8lb 1oz born and only 9lb 13oz now and dropped down to just above 0.4th centile. gp has advised me to give formula and h.v is on the verge of sayin the same. i havnt yet cos she seems well in every way, been checked by gp, not showin any signs of bein malnourished or dehydration. had similar experience with 1st baby and ended up mixed feeding but am desperate to just bf this time. been to bf cafes and not met anyone with such slow weight gain. help!

I can't remember how slowly my ds gained weight, but it was very slow. If she is gaining, not losing, and seems well - alert, meeting milestones, lots of wet and poo-y nappies, I would just carry on. Perhaps you could try feeding her more often or for longer?

i had a similar sounding problem with DS2 and switched him 100% onto formula from 4 months - but it still made absolutely no difference to the velocity of his weight gain. it was only when he started solids that he began to put weight on a tiny bit faster but it still wasn't rapid.

he is now a rampaging 18 month old with the appetitie of a horse, but still only around the 10th centile for weight - seems that's the way he is.

is she holding around the same centile for height and head circumference?

my first only started to really gain weight after solids, with a big appetite! shes 3 now and big for her age despite dropping through the centiles in early months!
difficult to know bout head and length as not measured since 6wk check, but then head had dropped bit since birth and length was on 9th. maybe she'l just be the same and wont pile on the weight til solids. just hoping she can gain 3oz this week so doesnt drop of bottom centile! been trying to feed her as much as poss, but think me stressing isnt helping!

Hi figgis, my LO is v similar, 9lb 5oz at birth and now at 11weeks about 10lb 5oz. You can see some pics of him on my profile.

HV, GP advised formula but it makes him so gassy I hate it so give EBM instead wherever posible.
