Premade bottles causing gas?

Hi Mums,

I have a 4-week-old baby boy who is truly an angel! He’s super chilled, rarely cries, sleeps through the night, and is thriving. He’s eating ahead of his recommended amount (95ml per feed) and currently drinks 150ml of Novalac Anti Colic formula per feed.

At 2 weeks old, he had one episode of gas, but since then, he’s been doing great. I’ve always made his bottles on demand—boiling the water fresh and cooling it down in a bowl of cold water before feeding him. However, over New Year’s Eve and yesterday, I tried something different. I pre-made his bottles in the morning using boiling water, stored them in the fridge, and reheated them when needed.

Since doing this, he’s had really bad gas over the last two days. Could the pre-made bottles be causing this? If so, why would they cause gas?

I don’t mind going back to making bottles on demand if it’s better for him, but it does take a bit longer to prepare, so I wanted to see if this could really be the issue or if it’s just a coincidence.

Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

TIA

Just wondering what was behind your decision to give anti-colic formula? Have you had problems with gas before this?

I gave birth in a private hospital so as I had a planned c-section, when they had finished surgery and I was waiting to go back to the room, my partner had gone back with the midwife to do all the checks, dress him and feed him.

it just happened to be the one the hospital “gifted us” as part of the price and we never had any problems with it so we just continued to use that one.

I figured if the hospital use it, it must be okay to carry on with it

They might have slight bacterial contamination over the day which is causing slight upset?
