Ergh this is mastitis isn’t it?

Woke up around 6am feeling like I’d pulled a muscle in my chest, as I got up an hour later I realised the pain was in my boob. It’s stayed the same ever since despite how much I’m getting baby to feed from it. It feels like a dull ache, more towards armpit but generally all over.

I can’t feel a lump and boob feels quite drained after feeds tbh. There is no redness and I also have no temperature or aches etc. have had mastitis twice before with my first and felt dreadful almost immediately as the pain started. The pain does feel similar though, especially when baby unlatches and during letdown, even having my bra graze past it really, really hurts.

Waiting for the doctor to give me a call back as I’d rather just get the inevitable antibiotics just in case. Anybody had similar and it not be mastitis? Dreading it getting worse 😩

It sounds like just a blocked duct which might not need antibiotics. I had one and managed to clear it myself with lots of feeding/expressing and hot compresses and massages (massage down towards your nipple) over the swollen area

When i had mastitis a couple of months ago, it was such a horrible pain. It affected how much i could move my arm up and down so it was even hard to get dressed. I had a obvious area on the side which was pink and warm to touch. Like you said, I remember a non wired bra make it hurt too and mine was also itchy. I was on antibiotics for 10 days and was basically feeling myself by day 5. I know other people who had mastitis experienced flu like symptoms. I was getting hot flushes and sweating a couple of days before there was a visible and painful infection. Better to get yourself to the GP to either rule it out or go on antibiotics. Good luck!

The advice has changed, it's ice packs and ibuprofen and don't massage it because you'll aggravate the inflammation now .

Just an update to this I continued to let baby feed and feed and feed as much as possible and this morning the pain has practically gone. I got antibiotics from the doctor just incase as when they called yesterday it was still agony, I picked them up at 6pm but was already feeling 50% better by that point and said I’d start them today if it had worsened but it’s gone. No pain in whatsoever. I will keep the antibiotics just in case but for now I definitely don’t need to take them. Thanks everyone!
