Baby crying half way through a feed

Hi, for the last week or so my 7 week old baby boy has started crying half way through a bottle on some of his daytime feeds. He gets winded a lot and brings a lot of wind up but after 2/2.5oz he sometimes will not go back on the bottle and will just scream and gulp but still seems hungry. He used to always take between 4/5oz every feed too.

A few weeks ago i had to change the teat size as he was getting frustrated on the bottle and was taking nearly an hour to finish his bottle.

mix gripe water with a little bit of formula before a full feed then try give a full bottle see if that helps .If not ask health worker about reflux

TinyMouseTheatre · 24/12/2024 20:17

@MROMR you could try adding Dentinox to the bottle and if that doesn't work switching formula. Which one id he on now?

He’s currently on nannycare goats milk, he has been for around 3 weeks. Was originally on cow and gate but he seemed uncomfortable on that.

Does he have any of these symptoms? Xmas Wink

MROMR · 25/12/2024 09:55

None of those symptoms no thankfully! He’s abit fussy recently but i’ve seen babies can go through a fussy period between 6-8 weeks! Merry Christmas to you by the way!! 🎅🏽

Yeah as suggested try the gripe water. Sounds like gas.

Superscientist · 28/12/2024 13:16

Being fussy mid feed was a symptom of cmpa and silent reflux in my daughter. By 4 months it made her virtually unfeedable but it started much earlier

TinyMouseTheatre · 28/12/2024 14:01

Have you tried adding Dentinox to his bottles?

If that doesn't work I'd try a comfort time formula Flowers

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 28/12/2024 14:04

@MROMR have you tried aptamil? or is he snuffly? get a variety of teats and try them all. let him have about an ounce then wind him. try feeding him in a different position.

StockingFillers · 28/12/2024 14:29

Perhaps feed more little and often? Babies don't need large amounts of milk at once at such a young age? Perhaps he's getting uncomfortably full too quickly?

I don't mean wait hours between feeds but feed, pause, burp, rock and sing to him and then give him the rest?

Also are you doing paces feeding? Look up a YouTube video if not, as they're helpful and explain how to mirro a breastfeed with a bottle.

Paced

Hi lovely, he’s not snuffle at all no, we do try to do the ounce then winding but a lot of the time he gets upset because he’s a little hungry horris and isn’t ready to loose the bottle for a few mins after an ounce!🤣 I’ve recently started letting him have a break when he’s starting to show signs of getting upset rather than keep trying him with the bottle and just watching for ques when he’s ready to go back to the bottle! seems to work sometimes but there is the occasional time he gets upset still! Thank you :)

Hi lovely! Over the last couple days i’ve figured to just let him have a break from the bottle for 10-20 mins when he’s showing signs of getting upset and then watching for ques for when he’s ready to take the rest of his bottle and this seems to be working! there is still the occasional time of getting upset so i’m definitely going to try pace feeding too so fingers crossed! Thank you so much!

Could he need the next size teat? Might be getting frustrated with the pace of the milk

MROMR · 29/12/2024 04:35

I’ve just recently changed his teat, he was on size 0 from birth and was showing signs of being frustrated and not finishing bottle ect, i’ve moved him up to the 1 teat and he’s so much better but sometimes i feel like the 1 teat is occasionally a little fast so i have to help him slow down☺️
