7 Month Old Refusing Bottles?

LeoSun11 · 21/12/2024 15:36

My little boy is 7 and a half months old, he’s always been really difficult to get milk into he just doesn’t seem interested in it at all. He goes through phases of feeding really well & then others of being so poor. He’s currently teething & has a bit of a cold so I know these are factors as to why he’s not wanting to feed as much but he’s gone from 32oz to 24!! Sometimes less??

I’m trying my best to offer water wherever I can as I’m terrified he’s going to dehydrate. He only has one meal a day, we combo feed finger foods & purées so I can’t imagine him being too full?

my question is how often should he be getting milk and how much? Is it every 4 hours and a meal in between? He was taking 4/5x 5/6oz bottles throughout the day ontop of a meal but the last week has been absolutely awful.

If he is poorly I wouldn’t stress about it - everything will be out of whack. Stick to the solids and make sure he has liquids (water or milk) from a sippy cup.
Babies are a bit like us when they’re ill - they just want what they fancy.

Thanks for replying! He loves a sippy cup I was just panicked as he’s only had 17oz the whole day it seems such a big jump from what he was originally taking all be it a struggle but still better

How is he now @LeoSun11?

I refused to drink milk when I was 9 months old - I haven't had a drop of milk since & I'm 42 now!

As long as your DC is having solids & taking liquids, I wouldn't worry too much. He's probably out of sorts due to having a cold but so long as he's eating or drinking something I would t stress about the milk right now.

He’s absolutely awful honestly he won’t eat solids he’s just throws it everywhere - he won’t let me spoon feed him, barely taking a bottle it’s such a fight to get any oz into him. It’s taking up to an hour for us to get 5/6oz down him, since it’s been Christmas he’s been 100x worse because of the excitement. Today he’s not ate anything & only taken 13oz the whole day. I’ve tried giving calpol before a feed to see if it’s his mouth annoying him with teething & nothing works I’m honestly at my wits end it’s such an unenjoyable time right now. He constantly is moaning & whingeing. I’m really not having a good time I feel so down & drained - I have 0 patience because it’s just been one thing after another for the past 3 months or so.

That must be so worrying. If he's teething, I'd try Ibruprofen instead of paracetamol as it's much better for dental pain.

If he's always been a bit reluctant with milk, is he on a comfort type formula?

How is he if you try feeding a bit less but offer every 3 hours in the day?

How about a bottle in wake up at 7.

Breakfast at 8

A bottle on wake up around 10

Lunch at 12 followed by a bottle and nap

Bottle at 4

Bottle at 7

Personally I think 4 hours is a very long time to go without food and drink in the day but then I'm a greedy guts and probably couldn't manage it myself Grin

I wonder if he has abit of a silent reflux, sometimes this can cause them to be abit whiny and not drink or eat, maybe a trip to the GP and ask about it x
