Has anyone got any of those bfing politics books they could lend me?

I've heard lots of good books recommended on here about the politics surrounding bfing. Does anyone have any copies they wouldn't mind lending me (in return for some choccie ) or selling me? I'd love to read some of these books but can't afford to get them new.

Bump - how about the public library

And you won't even have to give chocolate!

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 01/05/2008 15:10

Thanks tiktok, I will check it out (though our library is pretty rubbish). Can you give me any recommendations?

Politics of Breastfeeding by Gabrielle Palmer - but there are others, too.

broguemum · 01/05/2008 20:16

Bumperlicious, another really interesting read although not 100% about BF is Dream Babies. I'm engrossed.

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 01/05/2008 21:14

Oooh that looks v interesting broguemum, thanks.

Bumper, the Gabrielle Palmer book is available to local libraries, you can reserve it online (I think it's free if you do it online, while you pay if you get a librarian to do it for you in the library). Dream Babies is fascinating, I can lend it to you if you want but you might have to wait a while - it's out on loan to a friend who's got a 3yo and an 18mo so I suspect she'll take a while to get through it.

Thanks DCMB, I checked online and they do have it in the main library. Going to go and get it tomorrow.

Thanks for for the offer of the other book, would love to give it a go when you get it back.

I love online library services! They mean that although DD's library books were due back in November I only owe about 35p on them, cos I keep renewing them.

I do intend to take them back tomorrow though, so if we're there at the same time I am NOT STALKING YOU. Honest. Actually we'll be in the kids' library, so our paths shouldn't cross.

i have one 'milk money and madness'. Whats your email address, you can borrow it. 'politics of breastfeeding' is brilliant.

mawbroon · 01/05/2008 22:33

I have recently read "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding", "The politics of breastfeeding" and have just finished "HOw Weaning happens".

Do you know what?

There wasn't much in them that I hadn't already read on Mumsnet over the last 3+ years!!

I think I need to get out more.

Why is the politics of breastfeeding so good?
Was pondering buying it, but it seems to be out of print at the moment.

gigglewitch · 01/05/2008 22:44

lol came to say "the womanly art of breastfeeding~" ohhhh.... somebody beat me to it.

IorekByrnison · 01/05/2008 23:55

I have Mothers and Medicine - A Social History of Infant Feeding 1890-1950 by Rima Apple. Good if you're interested in a historical perspective (and the inexorable rise of the Nestle company).

Let me know if you'd like to borrow it. I think I'm set up for catting.

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 02/05/2008 08:14

Charliegal would love to borrow that book. My email is bumperlicious . mn @ hotmail .co .uk (no spaces). No hurry though as I am going to try and get The Politics of bfing at the library.

Thursdaynext, there is a new edition of Politics coming out in Oct which may be why it is out of print.

DCMB what time are you going to the library? We could arrange to meet. I'm going to take DD to the local Children's centre this morning though, give her a go on the soft play while the other mothers ignore me

Iorek I would love to borrow that book sometime, but I'm going to give the others a go first. Thanks for the offer, I may be in touch in a while.

Thanks for the help.

Ask your local branch of the LLL too - they will probably have their own library full of all the stuff you want.
