Breastfeeding book recommendations please?

Feel like getting a few good books in. Was idly googling the other day and came across "Breastfeeding and Human Lactation" - Jan Riordan, which looked interesting. Quite sciency, which might get me to dust off some of my dormant grey cells.

Have also seen people recommend "The Politics of Breastfeeding", and "Fresh milk" - not sure of authors...

And was thinking of getting something about nursing a toddler or even tandem nursing [chance'd be a fine thing] to prepare myself for interesting conversations with dh, should we ever get that far.

What do you recommend, ladies?

Adventures in Tandem Nursing (published, I think, by LLL) is the 'standard' tandem-bfing book.

Is it for political/socilogical angle or for pratical help?

Just bedtime reading, really!

Though I'll probably want to pick up the very physiological one as that kind of thing interests me.

What have you enjoyed reading?

The Politics of Breastfeeding Gabrielle Palmer.
It blew me away and changed my life.

There's one called 'Milk' I think which seems interesting. Hang on...

Thanks moondog. It looks like there's a new edition soon to be released so I might hang on for that.

VLC

The Jan Riordan book is a textbook for lactation consultants and VERY sciency but interesting...

If you can get hold of it, I would recommend Human Milk in the Modern World by Derrick and Patrice Jelliffe - published in 1977 but still very, very relevant. As well as the others mentioned above, try The Problem with Breastfeeding by James Akre. LOVED Fresh Milk (it's by Fiona Giles btw)

clare byam cook - great! very sensible advice.

Not clare byam cook. lots of myths and opinion interwoven with good advice. it comes across as sensible and down to earth which hides the fact that she has little evidence to base what she says.

The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding is also fab and then great to lend out to other mums to be.

'Fresh Milk, The secret life of breasts' by Fiona Giles is well worth a read. Loads of anecdotal stories from all over the place... it made me laugh out loud and also cry.
