How old is your baby and how much do they drink per feed?

I’m stressed abt this issue also..my baby is 5months and will only take 5oz per feed. I see other babies are on 7oz by this stage?? But she has plenty wet/dirty nappies

@Pinkxmas1997 is there a reason it's making you stressed?

Is she bright and alert at times and following her centiles?

I'm stressed with it too! I'm thinking my little one should be on more now! She's 8 weeks and taking 4oz every 2-2.5 hours. The health visitor looked surprised when I said she was still on 4oz.

I know it's different because my 7 week old is mostly breastfed but when he does have an odd bottle of expressed milk he usually only has about 2-3 oz and that's after at least 3-5 hrs after his last breastfeed. Yet he's growing fine anyway. If your little one is growing well I wouldn't be concerned.

Yeah she has been we last seen the health visitor on the 14th of nov and she was still on the 50th centile!! Just hasn’t moved from 5oz since she was 3.5 months? I always offer 6 but she never drinks it all 🤔

My DD preferred little and often. Just because the guidelines say they should be drinking larger amounts doesn't mean every baby will.

Follow baby's lead and be prepared to wash / sterilise more often, baby won't be little forever and it'll be over before you know it (the washing / sterilising cycle I mean)

My children are grown up now but I found it helped to keep a feeding diary, then we always knew from feed to feed how much he had taken and at what time.

this my MIL made a comment once about the amount of milk Ds was drinking, I asked her if I gave her a second cup of tea now would she drink it and she said no, one is plenty. I said Ds is the same, he drinks until he is full not what is recommended on the formula tin. He is gaining weight, I am happy with the number of feeds he is getting, he is a happy content baby.

Nothing quite prepared me for Ds2, severe reflux, drank little and often but luckily I had an incredible paediatrician who reassured me Ds2 was fine, gaining weight but just more of a snack boy than a main meal boy. He did not align with the amount of formula he "should" have had, he is now a strapping 6ft teenager.

Be led by your child.

@LegoHouse274 it is a bit different you're right Smile

Between 6 weeks and 6 months BF babies take roughly 25 Floz in 24 hours so if he's not been fed for 2 hours a feed of EBM of 2 to 3 flozs is a full feed.

A FF baby will need roughly need 2.5 floz pound in weight until they're 6 months. So a 15lb baby would need 25 floz of they were EBF or 37.5 floz of they were FF.

The advice is the same with regard to feeding your baby responsively whichever way you feed them though.

Some babies like a little and often and some babies prefer more less often Wink
