Possible contact dermatitis on nipples

Hi

Currently breastfeeding and experiencing sore nipples, latched has been checked. GP thinks it is contact dermatitis on the nipples and has prescribed hydrocortisone 1 %. Has anyone had something similar? Or been treated with hydrocortisone? If so, was it effective? How long did it take to see an improvement?

Thanks

Has LO been checked for Tongue Tie?

Yeah she had it cut at 3 weeks old with no improvement. We have been advised it has grown back but they won’t cut it again without putting her under GA.

I had one with TT. It sounds as though that might be the cause of your troubles.

I was also told multiple times that my latch was fine too Flowers

Yeah I think you are probably right. It has been painful on and off for 7 months but had periods were it has felt better. But in the last month I have had burning between feeds and bright red nipples. We have been treated for thrush with no success and saw the gp yesterday who said it looks like eczema/dermatitis. Have you had a similar experience?

I never had pain just a baby who wanted to feed constantly then had problems with sleep, weaning and speech.

I really would consider getting it shipped again Flowers

Were both you and baby treated for thrush?

TinyMouseTheatre · 26/11/2024 19:54

It might be worth going sling to your local BFing Support Group and see if they can give you a second opinion Flowers

Yeah we were both treated and then got the swabs back to say we didn’t have it in the first place

Sadly, I have been several times and had several home visits and it was actually the lady who I saw that said the last thing she could think of is thrush and that if it wasn’t that then she was out of ideas x

I get the same pain when expressing and the burning between pumping which makes me think it is more to do with me than my little one x
