Giving bottle of expressed milk

MincePieFan88 · 19/11/2024 21:21

My baby is 12 weeks and we just gave him his first bottle of expressed milk. He was breathing heavily and making a squeaky noise a lot, does that mean something was wrong with the bottle or teat size?

What bottle and teat size were you using?

TinyMouseTheatre · 20/11/2024 20:21

@MincePieFan88 were you using the tests suitable for newborns?

MincePieFan88 · 20/11/2024 20:28

Hello - yes they were size 0, box says 0+. It's the Philips advent ones

I'd try the medium flow teat which is recommended from 3 months.

As breast milk doesn't "flow" like a bottle, I'd recommend a teat that's recommended from 2 months. 3 months might be too fast for him until he gets used to the bottle.

You just play with the test sizes to balance, my son was happy on a 2 for ages as he suckled hard but daughter needed a 3 almost right away because she wasn’t getting anywhere, I recommend Mam bottles, they make is so much easier for poorer feeders.

Fair point. You could try the 2 first OP and see if that helps Wink

Hi everyone. 👋 first time posting 🤦🏼‍♀️
just had my baby boy he was preterm 35+ and am exclusively pumping but feeling a bit overwhelmed with it and thinking of adding formula for night feeds. Has anyone else done this and how did you find it, what milk did u use.

@Mrsmad3 omg exclusively pumping is an enormous effort! I suggest you start your own thread so you get more helpful replies, people will just see my original post and reply to that.

One thing I do know is that the night time breastfeeding is really important for supply in the first 6 weeks, you risk your supply drying up entirely.
