Can you overfeed newborn baby? 5 weeks old and drinking 900ml a day!

Hi all, FTM here with 5.5 week old newborn baby who is combo fed about 50% breastmilk (pumped) and 50% formula. We are feeding on demand about 7 or 8 times a day and he now regularly drains 120ml in a bottle, which means over the last couple of days he has been drinking 900ml a day. Is this too much? He shows no signs of not wanting to drink anymore (he happily finishes the bottles) although he is sometimes sick afterwards. Is this just a growth spurt? Can you over feed a newborn? Should I be offering 150ml and hoping he goes longer between feeds, or will I stretch his stomach?! Sorry for all the questions, just wished babies came with an instruction manual!

Yea you can overfeed a baby if feeding by bottle (either expressed breast milk or formula). Are you doing paced bottle feeding? I believe this is recommended for all bottle fed babies to try to reduce the risk of overfeeding.

I don't have any advice on quantities etc as no experience of exclusively bottle-feeding. Although a quick search does seem to suggest that as @PolaroidPrincess says, recommended quantities looks at baby's weight not just their age.

My midwife said you can't Really over feed a baby- have you tried feeding a baby that doesn't want milk? They will not take it.

I think the over feeding is the extra calories in powder formula if it isn't made correctly.

But I'm not a midwife. I bottle fed my baby on demand whenever he wanted and he is following his centiles and HV/Dr are happy on his check ups.
