Baby guzzling formula

My ds is 4 weeks today. We offer him 5oz feeds whenever he wants it which is usually every 3-4 hours. He will usually finish around 4oz of it. He was quite small at birth, 6lbs 14. The problem is he gulps it so quickly like we've never fed him before. I try and pace him with a dummy, burping etc but he screams desperately for it still so I assume it's hunger. He does suffer from gas quite badly and we do burp him a lot. I'm just worried we're over feeding him as it's easier to do with formula and it seems a lot for his weight but he's always desperate for it! We increased to 5oz as he was draining the 4oz bottles and I didn't want the air in the bottle on the last bit.

We use anti colic tommee tippee bottles in size 1.

It could be silent reflux. This causes comfort feeding. Feeding relieves the pain from the reflux but causes reflux and they then want to feed again to relieve the pain from the last feed.

It might be worth doing a trial with the milk thickener. You can get gaviscon on prescription or carobel otc. They can cause constipation as thicker in means thicker out. In which case you might want to discuss whether omperazole would help but the first step is a thickener

@Superscientist ds1 had silent reflux so perhaps it could be. We put him on omeprazole for a year so I'm hoping it's not that. He does get very constipated anyway and gaviscon never worked for ds1, or the anti reflux milk.

It might be worth a chat with the GP
My daughter had been in omperazole for 4 years! I don't like her on medication but she has no quality of life off it
