Six week old - milk has gone down the wrong way

We think either a bit of milk or posset has gone down the wrong way for DS

He is able to breathe, cry and feed. But his cries and squeals are raspy and squeaky. It sounds like he needs to do a good cough but of course he can’t.

Any advice please?

Hopeful bump. When he’s breathing, I can hear a slight bubble ‘catch’ in his throat.

Try lying him on his tummy across your knee and rubbing up his back gently. It will help gravity to shift it.

No advice, bit if it were me I'd be phoning NHS direct. Nothing is worth the risk with a little one.

If you are worried it's in his lungs then the only course of action is to seek medical advice tonight.

Are you sure it’s milk? It sounds like pharyngitis, at least from the way you describe it. You could call 111 if you are worried.

Mb12340 · 30/10/2024 20:39

Not at all sure it’s milk, he sounds croaky and like his breathing is wet? He’s very upset.

Called 111 and a GP will call back in six hours if it’s on time or later than six hours if not…

We ended up at the walk in centre in hospital overnight. He has an upper respiratory tract infection. Hopefully it won’t develop further onto his chest / RSV. Fingers crossed.
