Teething Struggles

My 5 month old is currently teething & refusing to take a full feed. He usually guzzles 34-38oz per day inc night feed. I’ve gave him pain relief & ashtons and parsons gel for his mouth but he’s just not interested in a bottle at all. I’ve even waited it out to longer than when he usually would be due a feed to see if he would be more interested but nothing. I’m so worried? I know this is a normal trait when babies are teething to loose interest in feeding but surely he would at least be taking more than 2/3oz every 4 hours, it doesn’t seem enough for his little body.

I think I’m just needing reassurance that it’s temporary but I just feel so helpless. This happened before when he was 3 months & lasted for weeks, he just wouldn’t take a bottle more than 2/3oz & we’ve just recently got back on a good flow of feeding I’m so deflated.

I can totally get that you're deflated.

If you're not already, I'd give him Ibruprofen as it's much better for dental pain than paracetamol.

Can he manage a cool, clean, damp flannel to chew on too?

I'd be tempted to offer bottles more often not less though at the moment.

todays been a massive improvement thankfully he’s back to his normal eating habits!! I tried giving bottles more regularly & less often neither of which were making a change in the amounts he was taking but he’s woke up interested in eating again!

he’s going through a really fussy phase as well as teething just constantly whining & not really being amused by anything for long… hoping it passes soon we’re in the trenches for sure 🤣
