2 week old feeding for 1 hour, help?!

Hello, my 2 week old is going through a growthspurt and is currently feeding for up to 1 hour and I'm slowing loosing it.

He just got weighed 2 days ago and put on 5oz in 4 days so he is definitely getting milk and the HV was happy with his progress and the routine I mentioned.

But he is constantly breastfeeding and it is starting to mentally and physically take its toll. I've expressed pumped too, but we've gave him 6oz which he demolished in less than 2 minutes and still cried for more boob afterwards.

Has anyone else dealt with this or have any advice to make this time a bit easier please?! Thank you x

Quite normal I think. They do get quicker as they get older though.

Do make sure he's burped as much as possible (easier said than done), they can confuse trapped wind with hunger so want to feed more, thus prolonging the issue.

I agree. Best to go with it if you can. Settle down with a boxset or a film you've been meaning to watch, a drink, snack, fully charged phone.

6oz is a lot for that age no ? Mine is bottle fed but 16 weeks and only starting to take the odd 6oz bottle

It's totally normal unfortunately, get yourself set up with everything you need - phone, book, tv remote, snacks, drink etc, make sure you're warm enough and go with it.
It won't last forever, even though it feels like it will.

Ps I probably wouldn't bother with the expressing, your baby will be much more efficient at getting milk out of your boobs than a pump so expressing could make things worse not better because your milk supply will increase more quickly just letting your baby feed

It’s normal. My daughter cluster fed for 8hrs straight every evening for 12 weeks. It was hell. Do yourself a favour and get a dummy…

She was talking about the baby's weight.

Oh sorry OP totally read that wrong

PlantDoctor · 09/10/2024 22:01

Normal. I wouldn't bother expressing too if I were you - give yourself a break between feeds x

She was talking about the baby's weight.

I read it also as giving the baby a 6oz feed

Totally normal. Buckle in for the next month, that will be hard but it is much easier once they establish your supply.

Watch TV, eat all the snacks and go with it.

Expressing won’t help, you need to let the baby do it.
