Sorry I'm not sure I'm posting in the correct place but thought this would be most suitable. My lo was born at 35 weeks weighing 4lb15. She's had a problem with reflux quite early on, she's had an oral assessment done and had a tongue tie cut. She has omeprazole daily and has gaviscon in her bottles. Since around 8 weeks old has been stuck on 4oz bottles as if we try to increase the oz it makes her reflux so much worse, she's now 6 months old and weighs 10lb12 and is below the 0.4th percentile. Our health visitor suggested we wean her early, we've been trying for around a month now. She's so small she looks lost in her high chair, she becomes hysterical after a few spoonfuls of food, she's so upset and irritated after eating and has been brining up the food despite only having a tiny amount. Has anyone else had these issues and found a way around it at all? Feel like I'm at a loss and don't know what else to try.

Has she been tried on dairy free formula?

I had to fight for it with one of mine, but reflux is a symptom of something and whilst weaning can help, it can also make it massively worse. Especially when you don't know what's causing it.

She hasn't, I hadn't really considered it until you had mentioned it.
My son was put on a dairy free formula and that with the gaviscon completely stopped his reflux and weaning was a breeze, absolutely no issues! I think I'll try to get a GP appointment and go from there 🤞

Weaning initially made my daughters reflux worse and we had some freaky coloured posseting and she didn't really engage with weaning until 13 months. Weaning in the end did nothing for her reflux. She's 4 and still on lots of medication for it. She has food allergies too. Given the family history I would speak to the GP. In the end we have found she eats better when her reflux and allergies are managed which didn't come until later on. I breastfeed until 10 months but she was reacting to things in my diet still. It took time after stopping breastfeeding for things to calm down and we found she was reacting to onions and garlic and a few other things. Once these were removed and she was happier she would eat. She still stops eating if her reflux or allergies are playing up.
