Baby mouthing nipple?

My 6 week old has started to sometimes ‘mouth’ my nipple- she refuses to latch on and just kind of opens and closes her mouth on it almost like she’s trying to gently chew it. She also flails her arms around a bit.

She can latch and feed properly and Sometimes she’ll do it as soon as I put her on the breast, sometimes she’ll do it after she’s fed for a few minutes.

Is she trying to stimulate my supply/frustrated if there’s no milk? Or is it something else?

Is she actually feeding, or is she using you as a dummy?

It's part of cluster feeding and trying to stimulate your milk supply. Mine used to pop on and off, pull and stretch the nipple and then bash with their hands. It can seem like they're frustrated and not getting enough milk but it's normal behaviour for stimulating your supply.
