Fish fingers, potato faced and beans for 1YO

Tonight we fed our boy fish fingers, potato faces and beans for dinner and now we feel so guilty. He’s one and typically we batch cook meals like bolognese, butternut squash and chicken, baby curry, mince and potatoes etc. and freeze but we forgot to defrost one for tonight which resulted in tonight’s dinner. Are we being over sensitive? I just feel that I’m failing by my son after hearing what other children eat and find that some people are very judgy.

The real slippery slope is when you start to chuck a couple of extra fish fingers in for yourself too, then put em in a butty-slathered in butter- as a pre dinner snack 😂😂😂😂

Please get a grip op, I say this kindly. What do you think is going to happen to him? He'll turn into a smiley face? I'm shocked it's distressed you so much that you've posted about it...my kids love a fish fingers and smiley faces dinner, it doesn't hurt now and again x

It's fine. It's not like you gave your child a KFC or a kebab. But even if you did, one off isn't going to cause any damage.

Absolutely fine every now and then and a nice easy food for them to self-feed without making too much mess. If you have frozen peas in, next time swap the beans for peas. That’s what I do and then I feel like it’s better because there’s green on the plate 😇 Also, my 12mo loves picking peas up and it keeps her entertained while I eat my own dinner, tidy up, help the 5yo etc.

Don’t succumb to the idea that your child should only ever eat home cooked food and never any UPF. In reality, everything is fine in moderation.

Beans are one of your five a day and high in protein and fibre, so I wouldn't even swap out for peas tbh!

Thank you to those who are being kind and helping me calm. I think I will refrain from posting in future x

You do know you can defrost a meal in the microwave?

It's fine for one meal, don't give it another thought

Maybebaby2025 · 16/09/2024 22:05

Would I have fed my precious first born it at that age? Probably not. Do I feed my second born a similar type meal weekly, absolutely yes. Hell, he even had a McDonalds the other day and he’s no worse for wear for it. It’s fine OP. Though a bit concerning you’re so worried you’ve posted on Mumsnet.

Unless it was laced with arsenic I think he'll be fine.

Surely this is a wind up?? Nobody gets that anxious about a perfectly normal tea!
