Baby gaining weight

Hi all, looking for some advice. My little girl is 7 weeks old on Thursday. She was born at 7lb 2oz and is still only 7lb 3oz. She was just under the 25 centile and is between the 2nd and 9th. She is gaining at every weighing but very slowly. Has this happened to anyone else? I’m exclusively breast feeding so feel like it’s my fault she’s still so small! I’ve been to a breastfeeding session and her latch is all good, she doesn’t have tongue tie and has wet and dirty nappies. Her development is right on track, smiling, eye tracking, able to hold head for a while etc.

I’m not sure what else I can do! I’m debating giving her a bottle of formula once a day to bulk up her calories but I really didn’t want to do that. Does anyone have any ideas?!

Thanks x

Can your mum confirm whether you were a small baby? Can your MIL confirm whether DH was a small baby? It may just be her genes! Has the health visitor raised concerns about her weight?

I personally would not be happy with that weight gain and I would probably ask a GP for advice. My baby dropped from 25th to 9th centile and I was advised to supplement with formula. I also didn’t want to do it initially but she absolutely thrived

We were both average! I just worry I’m not producing enough milk for her x

Yeah I’m not overly happy with it, she still seems so small for a nearly 7 week old. Developmentally she’s right on track so the HV isn’t too worried but I’d rather she started gaining some weight.

how often did you give a bottle?

I gave a small top up after the 2.30pm feed and then a full bottle before bed as
i found my evening supply quite low. I then breastfed on demand at night.

Just making sure the details are correct...you say she's currently 7lb 3oz, so she's only 1oz above birthweight at 7 weeks? What did she drop down to after birth?
How many times is she feeding in a 24hr period? And how long is she sleeping in between feeds?

You are not at fault. Some babies are slow gainers/naturally lean. My baby is just shy of 36w and weighed 7.1kg at the paediatrician's today. If feeds and diapers are good your baby is likely normal for her.
