I know we've said it before but I'll say it again, so many people really just don't 'get' BFing do they?

I had DD nearly 7 months ago. She didn't have the happiest start in life that is to say she was a very noisy screamer a little unsettled.

As the early months went on she got better and to the point now, where apart from at night time she is just a pure pleasure of a baby.

I was saying this to my friend recently who didn't get on at all with BF'ing. She knows DD is only BF'd at night now, but was soley BF until 5 months. She asked 'Are you sure it wasn't that she was just hungry?'

I'm a second time mum. I don't profess to know it all by any stretch but to imply that I wouldn't realise my baby is hungry I do fine somewhat insulting. I know this says more about her lack of knowledge than it does about mine but it is still playing on my mind that someone thinks I'd be that incompetent!

Yeah of course, your DD obviously hated the loving closeness you had and was desperate to start on the shreddies instead

Your friend probably feels very guilty.

Such is the power of formula marketing.
And people claim advertising doesn't work. This insidious message has crept into the heads of millions of parents, MILs and HPs all over the world.

Gah! How annoying.

IME (limited, first time mum here!) you'd have to be pretty dense not to notice your baby is hungry.

...Waah, waah, waah, [sticks fist in mouth]; waah, waah, waah [eats your shoulder]; waah, waAAH, WAAAAAH [latches on to your chin/nose/anything else in sight and gives you a hickey]...

Pretty expressive I think.

weasle · 18/04/2008 13:09

yeah, any and every problem with a bf baby is blamed on bf. really really annoys me.

my mother used to say ds was getting too much
she said we were designed to give birth to twins (2 breasts, you see) and ds should only have been having half the milk he was getting
hence why he was so appallingly fat [eyes get sore from rolling around so much]

Franny

Just when I thought I had heard it all.....

TheProdigalShow · 18/04/2008 17:10

flossish, don't you know anything. The fathers of triplets are supposed to start lactating on one side only.

Sheesh, the ignorance.

FrannyandZooey · 18/04/2008 17:20

from the planet zarg I would imagine
she is a loon, bless her

All time classic from my MiL: "doesn't the milk on one side go off in between feeds since it's always there on both sides"
