BF - ds thinks I am a dummy

DS2 (14 wks)is now bf happily, which is great as ds1 was not thriving and had to be bottlefed. However, ds2 loves bf so much that I seem to feed all the time. He roots to sleep, when tired, when not fed for more than 30 mins etc. I can never be certain he is not hungry, so feed him. He does get reflux and is on medication to help this, so it is important I don't overfeed him, but I find it really hard to work out when he is hungry! I often only know that he wasn't hungry after letting him suck and he falls to sleep, he salivates madly/has reflux/is sick or is so full he can't stay on and frantically goes on and off. He is gaining 15 oz a week, so he must be full quite often really!

My big issues now is that he really can't either get to sleep or stay asleep without 'nibbling', and the situation is deteriorating. He now spends literally most of the night lying next to me sucking, and wakes if I move. I am sure this is not good for me, him or my two year old. I have tried every dummy you can buy - every day, but he spits them straight out. I have tried following advice to remove him from the breast as soon as he stops sucking, so now he does little sucks all the time so I won't take him off.

I am starting to feel that the only way for him to have more than 30 mins without eating is to put him on bottles all day and try for a routine (this was not happening with ds1 obviously!). Or try a strict bf timetable, which I know I would struggle with as I am never sure he is full!

Please help!!!

Newsflash: You ARE a dummy - consolation? It won't last for ever. I am still a dummy (but only at night now) - DS2 is 22 months old!
