stopping breast feeding

I stopped breast feeding my 6 month old 6 days ago and my breasts are still very painful. I have breast fed my other two children but don,t remember it taking this long for my milk to dry up or it being this painful. Any tips? Any idea how long this labour like pain will last?

I stopped feeding my 9mo about 4 weeks ago and my boobs were ridiculously painful and engorged for the best part of a week.I got the cabbage out in the end which helped. It shouldn't go on for much longer if that's any help...

She has got teeth and likes to use me as a teething toy, also she only feeds for a couple of minutes at a time very irregularly which is begining to become very time consuming with a 3yr old to look after too. Heard that giving odd feed or pumping drags out the process of drying up?

I contemplated using cabbage leaves, if it works I'm on my way to the grocers!

I guess after having stopped for almost a week it would be daft to feed her now.

I've recently stopped feeding (two weeks ago) and found taking sage tablets from the health shop helped. They are supposed to help to dry up your milk. I was a bit sceptical at first but found that if I didn't take them, my breasts would feel more uncomfortable. The discomfort only lasted about 6 days.

Massaging them gently under a hot shower helped too. You need to be careful not to get blocked ducts. Massage any lumps you have towards the nipple.

Hope you're feeling easier soon.

Thanks, the pain seems to be lessening now, still very tender and I'm positive the pain wasn't this bad the first two times.
