Changed baby from cow and gate to Kendamil 2 weeks ago due to reflux, still being sick but is very cheesy smell and lumpy. Should i change back to cow and gate or stick it out?

Have you worked out what's causing the reflux yet @Ag1996? Is there a chance it could be Cow's Milk Protein Allergy?

Ag1996 · 01/08/2024 20:24

What test did she have for CMPA OP, if it's non-Ige, like I have, I didn't think there was a test? Wink

Sorry OP but that's quackery.

Have a read of the link I posted earlier from Allergy UK, which is a respected charity who provide support and evidence based information Wink

Hi OP! I did the exact same swap with my LB. Have you weaned the Kendamil onto your baby or just done a straight swap? I learnt that I was meant to have given 1 new bottle of Kendamil a day and gradually add more bottles until he was fully on the new formula - unfortunately I only knew this until he was already on it and he had the exact same reaction to your DC. Their sick will be more smelly due to the milk being organic so that is completely normal!

Ag1996 · 01/08/2024 21:53

Oh thats annoying because in explained it to the HV and she told me it means the milk doesn't agree with him & to change him back to C&G!!!!!

I done it in one go as few people told me different things about introduce or one go and i wasnt sure just wanted him better so went with one go :(

No not at all! Do allow some time as it took my baby around a week or two to show a difference. Please don't change him back just yet as it may make him feel worse. My LB suffered badly with colic and I believe silent refund too... and he's a different baby now almost 4 months later! So do allow some time for baby to get used it as I know exactly what you're going through

Ag1996 · 01/08/2024 21:59

So hard isnt it :(

So i changed his last 3 bottles to C&G after the HV said that... now not sure what to do

He has been on kendamil now for over two werks and sick is still lumpy smelly?

Kendamil will change their sick slightly as the ingredients are different due to it being organic - I have to admit that my sons sick stinks since being on it, unfortunately it's not something that could be changed really!

However you proceed is completely up to you and baby. Also i'll say to take into account the bottles you're using.. are they MAM, Tommee Tippee etc? As we had to change from TT to MAM as this had a positive change too.

I hope you get sorted OP, I know how hard it is.

Ag1996 · 01/08/2024 22:10

Thank you i just wish someone would tell me what to do as im getting told one thong from HV and another from GP and then people that have been through it before which im greatfull for!

Yeah hes always been on MAM. I did try tommie T but he wouldn't take them

Did you ever try gaviscon in tour babys feeds?

Have they suggested trying Gaviscon?

Ag1996 · 02/08/2024 12:29

Yes but i herd it can cause constipation?

OP posts:
Superscientist · 03/08/2024 09:29

Gaviscon helped my daughter but caused constipation. We were on and off it for 3 months before accepting a prescription for lactulose a mild stool softener. High dose omperazole and as much gaviscon as I could get into her as well as me going dairy and soya free were the things that started us on the path out of reflux hell. My daughter has particularly stubborn reflux which is why she needed the highest dose of omperazole and is in the tiny minority that don't outgrow reflux.
She is 4 next week and is still on gaviscon and omperazole as well as domperidone but no longer needs the lactulose. We only needed that for 2-3 months.

I think it's the first thing that they prescribe. If baby is struggling with it you can go back and ask for omperazole.
