What order to stop breastfeeding?

I need to stop breastfeeding by end of August so I’m planning to drop one feed per week. Some questions:

  1. I do 4 feeds. A morning feed, two during day (before morning and afternoon nap) and one before bed. Is there any recommended order for which to start dropping?

  2. What do I replace for breastfeed with? My baby will be 1 years old so could I do either formula or cows milk?

thanks in advance!

Drop in order of the feed you like least. Sonic you like the morning snuggle best keep that one til last. Or if you like the rest of an afternoon feed keep that one.
Straight to cows milk in a cup great. No need for formula post 1.

Thank you! I’ll go straight to cows milk then :)

Hi @coffeeandsleep I was searching through threads on how to stop breast feeding a one year old and came across your thread!

How did stopping breastfeeding go? Which order did you drop feeds in the end?

I’m also feeding 4x a day atm (exactly same times as you were) and have no idea how to stop, especially as DS feeds to sleep! Well with me at least. DH can put DS to sleep at night, but when DH isn’t around DS refuses milk in a cup from me and wails and wails when I try and withhold a feed.
Would love to hear how you managed it!

My baby was eating well and just stopped them one by one. I dint recall any issues. The just before bed was last to go - I never nursed to sleep though. She never had a bottle but was drinking from a cup. The night before she turned one I offered her my breast, she just stuck her thumb in her mouth and turned away. Hurrah!

@SummerBump23 its going well I think! I dropped the third feed for two weeks and now dropping the second feed for the next two weeks. I don’t feed to sleep so not got that to consider.

I’m keeping the first and last feed for now but I can tell my supply has dropped so not much is being produced anyway….

then not sure whether to drop the first or last next!

haven’t been very successful at giving cows milk to baby to will see how that goes!

Thanks for the update! The last two nights DH has put DS to bed, so we’ve skipped the bedtime feed. Today I just did the morning feed and skipped the 2 pre nap feeds and just did pram naps instead. So our first day with just one feed!

DS seems totally fine, and honestly not sure he’s that bothered about breastfeeding or not, aside from the reliance to go to sleep.

I’m a bit sad today though. I miss our post breastfeeding cuddle snoozes and actually can’t wait for his morning feed tomorrow.
