Started back at work 2 weeks ago. ds is 16 week dp has stopped work to be sahd. Going really well so far but over last 4 weeks babys weight gain has really slowed down and dp took him to be weighed today and hes now lost weight (only 2 ozs).
He has been exclusivley bf from start and has always taken a bottle of expressed milk quite happily.
The slowing in weight gain seems to tie into him taking more expressed milk (started to move over before i went back to work to get him used to it.)
Had a thought today and was wondering if this could be to do with it. When i express i get a few fast strong let down of 4/5 oz per side in about 5 mins each then only get trickles after that so tend to just pump that then stop.
Does this mean hes only really getting fore milk from the ebm? If this is the case then how long/much do i need to pump to get enough rich milk for him.

I wondered about this (in a diff context) Basically it seems there is no one answer as fore/hind milk balance diff for diff women.

baby is better at getting milk from breast than a pump.

can u express just after feeding to max chance of getting hindmilk????

Has anything else been happening recently with your DS? Has he been ill or had a cold?

tbh then I wouldn't worry so much as he's had a cold, especially as it's just one weight. Carry on as you are get him weighed again in a couple of weeks & I'm sure he'll be fine. My DS lost a couple of oz at 9 months old as he had a cold & started crawling at the same time...the next time I got him weighed a month later he'd put on a whole lb

Thanks, that makes me feel a bit better. Just silly HV making me worry told dp if he hadnt put much on next week then they would have to "do something" no sure what they "do" for that!
