How do you settle a ff baby during the night?

DS2 is bf and is nearly 5 months. He's still waking every 3 hours for feeds during the night and it is killing me - esp as I have a very active two yr old DS1 to deal with during the days!. He won't take a dummy and DH has just started to try and give him a formula bottle at 11pm to give me a bit of a break (sometimes he will take it others I have to bf him again). Am wondering if we went totally to formula what we would do to settle him if he woke in the night as currently I breastfeed him. I'll justg add that at the mo the formula bottle that DH gives him does NOT make him sleep any longer than a normal breastfeed!!!

Wow, didn't want to start a row! RE diff temps of the milk - we've done all that, tried diff teats too etc etc. He's finally taken an avent bottle with a mam teat, but, and this is reallly annoying, he will take it perfectly well one day and totally screams the place down and refuses it the next. He also won't take a dummy (DS1 loved them!) and we have again tried lots of diff types - he just spits them out. He is quite a big baby - 17lbs now and I'm getting very tied with it all. One min I love bf'ing him, and then when I can't get any sleep at all I begin to hate it and just want to get him on formula (DS1 was on formula by 2mths so DS2 has been very lucky to get this much boob out of me!)

Sorry, just read that back and it sounds like I'm ranting - am just very very tired and need to get some sleep. Am hoping that DS2 will take the dream feed bottle tonight that DH plans to give him. I couldn't get to bed before 9.30 last night either but was then woken at 10.15 by DS2 screaming as he wouldn't take the bottle DH was giving him and I had to bf him again.... grumble grumble...

holymoly, how is his napping in the day?

Holymoly321 · 10/04/2008 20:56

yogimum, I try and get him to have a nap about 9am - usually works, and then again at around lunchtime. He never sleeps for long in the day - an hour at most at a time...

that sounds about right, my ds did about the same. Once he got moving he slept really well as he was so tired.
