DS 10mo was feeding 3 times a day.

He developed an allergic reaction and must have been pretty uncomfortable as his skin was all swollen and blotchy. Shortly after the allergic reaction appeared, he stopped feeding.

I've spoken with some BFC and they have both suggested skin-to-skin, bathing together etc...However, I have had three other children at home with me during the easter hols and this wasn't exactly possible.

Have continued to express to keep up a supply, but he last fed 3 weeks ago.

Should I just throw in the towel?

Or has anyone elses baby come back to the breast after this time.

He allowed my nipple into his mouth last night but then just nipped me.

Please help- no one in RL understands- they just feel that he is obviously weaning (which I don't believe was his intention.

He dosen't take a bottle and he is having about 4-5 oz only of ebm per day via a sippy cup (and this takes forever to get it into him)

Not an expert, but any chance you can get him to feed a bit while halfasleep/just woken up? Is his mouth sore do you think? Have you tried ringing a breastfeeding counsellor - I'm sure they would have ideas.

Cockles- have tried feeding him whilst half-asleep several times and he gets upset.

Have spoken with 3 BFC who all suggested the skin-to-skin etc...

But tbh, I felt the bfc didn't think there was a problem. I think that most of the time of a BFC must be spent counselling people who are having problems with bf in the early weeks

my baby went on a (only three day )nursing strike at seven months and it was hideous so I really sympathise-I googled nursing strike and somehow found this amazing log of a woman whose baby fed again after about six weeks-it really helped me.I also had a lot of help from a la leche league counsellor. The GP said her ears were inflamed and it did seem as though it was hurting her to feed, she did just start again.don't give up hope, keep offering the breast and I think he may feed again as you have been feeding for so long,he won't just forget.I really hope it works out and feel for you!

Oh it is so hard when they do that - I had a pull off an nip couple of weeks with DD. She did come back though. I think you just have to keep trying and don't worry too much. If it works out it works out, if not, hey you got 10 months into him.

I'm still feeding a 17 month old though so clearly it can work out in some cases. In our case DD got put off because I was put on medication which made her really ill and she obviously clocked the relationship between nursing and vomiting a lot

my dd had a 2 week strike at 11 months - coincided with her getting chicken pox.

I offered every feed then expressed & cup fed it. did skin to skin feeds, fed when she was drowsy or asleep. sometimes id give a bit of ebm then try to latch her on.

eventually she fed again as a dream feed, then gradually came back to feeding all the time. she was bf til 2 years.

it is possible with alot of dertermination. good luck
