Mastitis help

mastitis123 · 20/06/2024 04:01

Currently suffering from mastitis, got a wedge the size of my hand on and off since Saturday but since Monday it won't shift. Got antibiotics yesterday afternoon but the lump is still there with a vengeance. Can't sleep, feel super super shivery and my resting heart rate is 120 lying in bed and temperature is now 39.8, 2 hours after paracetamol. Do I need to contact the GP again tomorrow and see if I need to do anything? Been doing everything I can to help lump so not looking for advice on that.

Thanks

Yes see the gp again!

Grendacious · 20/06/2024 04:22

Yes definitely see them again. Also keep you fluids up, hand express and very gently massage if you can tolerate it. Read up on sepsis symptoms just in case and please don't be shy to go to a&e if needed.

How are you now @mastitis123?

mastitis123 · 22/06/2024 23:46

@CadyEastman thanks for asking, today is the first day I feel a bit more human but still feel quite wiped out, I can't believe how poorly it can make you and how quickly it can come on. The wedge/lump is still there and still sore to the touch (nowhere near as sore as it was on Wednesday though and I think it is a tiny bit smaller) so not sure if anyone's got any suggestions for that? Do I just wait until I've nearly finished the antibiotics and then contact the GP back if it's still there or would sooner be better?!

I'd see the GP pronto. I had mastitis and ended up having an op under GA to have the access drained.

mastitis123 · 23/06/2024 01:45

@KnickerlessParsons sorry to hear that, sounds awful. Was that after you started feeling better from the initial mastitis infection/antibiotics? Just trying to decide whether I should phone 111 first thing or if it can wait until Monday morning for the GP.

I had 3 lots of ABs but when my breast got red the gp told me to go straight to the hospital and. He rang ahead for them to expect me. That was lunchtime and they did the op that night - last op as it's considered a "dirty" op. Baby was about 8 weeks old.
