If you bf lying down, how do you stop it getting messy?

Or do I just have far too much milk? Or maybe DS dribbles far more than normal!

Whenever I try, I always end up with a large wet patch on the sheets!

I am thinking more at night - I read of people letting their baby latch on as and when - if I did this we would be swimming in the stuff, I get through so many breast pads a day as it is. Also, whenever DS comes off the breast mid-feed there is a comical stream of milk jetting off across the room.

Also, if you do bf like this during the night, what do you do about burping?

A folded up muslin, or a terry square under the boob stops the wet patch problem. As your supply settles down, it becomes less of a problem.

I found that sleepy feeds lying down meant no need for burping.

No it doesn't!

When does supply settle down, generally? (DS is 11+3)

I used to have a towel under us when dd/ds was feeding and I was leaky.
For burping, I just used to sit her up and rub her back gently.

i used to lay on layers of blankets a towels to stop the milk patch on the sheets. my side of the bed constantly smelled of milk.

I used to tuck a muslin in around my feeding bra so it didn't get wet and lie down on a towel to feed.

Supply normally settles around 12 weeks - more info here: www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/breast-fullness.html

I had one of the (clean!) washable nappies laid under us, it was pretty absorbent.

To burp DS, I'd roll onto my back and have him lie half-on half-off my chest. He could sleep on my chest, but his head would be higher if he needed to burp.

i found ds3 needs to be winded less when he is fed lying down. We have got into a pattern of me feeding him normally until about 3 then he will come in bed with me and i will fall asleep mid feed so couldn't wind him anyway.

We lie on a muslin folded up but underneath the mattress cover is one of those pampers care mat things. saves the mattress as its easy to wash the milk off my sheets!!
