How much formula does your LO drink in 24hrs?

Hello, just looking for stories of how much formula their babies are having in a 24hr period. My little boy is 5 weeks tomorrow and is easily drinking 40+ oz in a 24hr period - most bottles are 6oz. The formula tin says it should be around 25-30oz so I’m worried I could be over feeding him as I was breastfeeding to start but have phased it out over the past week or so. Thanks!

It should be around 2.5 ounces per pound of body weight, as a rough guide. I’m
guessing at 5 weeks old he doesn’t weigh 16lbs though and 6oz sounds quite a lot at once. It’s rare because babies even on formula usually regulate themselves, reflux or silent reflux can cause overfeeding because the swallowing gives relief- does he have any other symptoms? Have you got a 6 week check booked in where you discuss with a professional?

I know, it does seem a lot! No symptoms of either, he’s not been sick once after a feed and settles easily after feeding…he just drinks a lot! He’d probably drink more if I’d let him too 😬

@TTCno1in23 maybe try the hungry baby formula? Apparently it fills them up quicker.

How much does he weigh and is he quite long too?

Hiya,
I’d be interested in hearing others stories on this as my baby is coming up 5 weeks old and is taking 4oz feeds, but is normally still hungry for more so we always have to top him up a bit later with another 2oz or even sometimes more… but this means he’s got into the habit now of wanting feeds every 2hrs. I’m thinking to just up the amount in his feed, so he goes back in the routine of going 3-4 hours.
The Kendamil box says he should be having 4oz feeds every 5 hours but there is no way that would fill him up!

I’d be interested to know how much other babies take at this age?

Im combi feeding but a lactation consultant told me that you can use the following calculation as estimation for amount of milk per day - 150ml x weight in kg. If you divide that by number of feeds in a day, then you should get an estimate of amount per bottle. My DD is only 2nd centile so she has much less than what is put forward on the box for her age. If your DC is a bigger centile then it might be right that they are drinking more?
