How long does powder formula last once decanted?

Hi all,

Hopefully someone can help / give advice. I use the tommee tippee little formula pots when out and about to use with my Nuby rapid cool.

I sterilise the pots using the cold water system and put the formula in once fully dried. All is going well however sometimes I don't use the decanted pots (if we've not been out long / my son hasn't needed the extra bottle)

So I'm wondering how long does the powdered formula last in those sterile pots? I know I could use them later in the day (and sometimes I do) but just wondering how long they'd last to use for another day / keep in the baby bag?

Thank you 😊

If you're using water hot enough to kill the bacteria anyway, I would think it would be safe for the next day.

I actually don’t know if there is an “official” answer, but I’d assume that decanted powder in a sterilised sealed tub would be fine for however long the powder would be ok in the original opened tin.

Disclaimer : no medical experience. has been a long time since I’ve had a baby and dealt with formula.

Milk powder isn't sterile (which is why you should use boiling water to make up bottles - the temperature being necessary to kill any bacteria in the milk). As long as the pots are sterile so you're not adding additional pathogens, it'll keep in there as long as it would in the tin.
